1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the Distill mobile application and the Distill website operated by Aurum Labs.

It explains what information is processed, why it is processed, and what controls users have.

2. Privacy-First Design

Distill is designed so core reading and personalization features work without account registration.

Core feed behavior and reading controls are intended to stay on your device.

  • No account is required for core product use.
  • We do not sell or broker personal data.
  • We do not use your reading behavior for advertising profiles.

3. Information We Process

Distill does not require your name, phone number, or government identifier for core use.

  • On-device app state such as language, appearance, and text size settings.
  • On-device reading state and controls such as bookmarks, muted topics, saved items, seen or dismissed clusters, and feed interaction signals used for local personalization.
  • Locally stored feed content, article metadata, embeddings, and related records used to rank, cluster, and display stories on your device.
  • On-device diagnostic and tuning records, such as local pipeline or decision logs, used to operate core app behavior on your device.
  • Cached files needed for normal app display performance.
  • If you contact us directly, we process the information you include in your message.
  • Our hosting provider may process basic website request logs (for example IP address, user agent, timestamp, and requested path) for security and service reliability.

4. Analytics and Tracking

Distill does not use third-party advertising SDKs for personalized ads in core app behavior.

Current mobile builds request iOS App Tracking Transparency permission and declare Android advertising identifier permission (AD_ID) as part of the current app configuration.

Distill does not currently use those permissions or identifiers to deliver personalized ads, perform cross-app tracking, or build third-party advertising profiles.

  • We do not run ad-targeting based on your reading activity.
  • If a platform tracking prompt appears, you can deny permission and continue using core Distill features.
  • Core content ranking and personalization are designed to rely on on-device signals rather than third-party ad-tracking data.
  • Optional platform-level diagnostics or analytics (for example through Apple or Google device settings) are controlled by your platform choices and governed by those providers.

5. Third-Party Content and RSS Feeds

Distill aggregates public RSS/Atom feed content for reading inside the app.

To improve summary and thumbnail quality, Distill may fetch metadata from publisher article pages in the background before you open an article.

When you open a full article from a publisher link, you leave Distill and interact directly with that external service.

  • Feed and metadata requests are made from your device and may expose basic request data (for example IP address, user agent, and requested URL path) to the publisher or its infrastructure providers.
  • External publishers control their own data practices.
  • Aurum Labs is not responsible for third-party website privacy policies.

6. Retention and Deletion

Different categories of on-device data have different retention controls.

  • You can clear cache data from Settings.
  • The current Settings reset is intended to refresh downloaded feed content and related local feed data; it is not a full wipe of every local record.
  • Bookmarks, muted topics, and some on-device interaction or personalization records may remain until you uninstall the app or we add a fuller in-app reset control.
  • Uninstalling the app generally removes local app data subject to device operating system behavior.

7. User Rights and Choices

Because core Distill usage is local-first, the primary way to control data is through your device and in-app controls.

  • You can edit preferences and reading controls in the app.
  • You can use the in-app cache clearing and feed reset controls, noting that they do not currently erase every category of local state.
  • You can contact us at support@distill-ai.app for privacy questions.
  • Where applicable law grants rights regarding information shared through support contact, you may request review or deletion of that contact data.

8. Children's Privacy

Distill is not directed to children under 13.

If you believe a child provided personal information through support contact, email support@distill-ai.app so we can review and take appropriate action.

9. Policy Updates

Aurum Labs may update this policy to reflect product, legal, or operational changes.

The date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision.
